“That Alicia, she’s really something, huh?” said Buddy as he and Claude shared a cab back to their office.

“Definitely!”

“Are you interested?”

“I don’t know a man who wouldn’t be, but she’s way too much for me.”

“Why do you say that?”

“Man, she is too damn pretty and too damn smart. I feel intimidated by her, Buddy. Besides, something tells me she’s not looking for a man.”

“How do you know?”

“I can just tell. She has no interest in me, and it’s probably not just me. That woman is on a mission of some kind. I don’t know whether it’s the Ph.D. or what, but until she’s finished, she is untouchable.”

“No wonder you’re such a good lawyer. You spent not more than two minutes with her, and I thought you two hit it off really well. But to be honest, you already have her figured out, at least based on what Lucy says.”

“Really? Damn, man, I wanted to be wrong. Then I would have been prepared to raise my standards and go after someone finer and smarter than I deserve.”

Claude and Buddy broke into laughter.
